In this step-by-step tutorial, I will show you how to easily make realistic bird feet from wire. Perfect for your crocheted robin, great tit, or any other small bird.

You can leave the feet basic, or finish them beautifully for an even more realistic result. Read on!

What do you need?

Thin wire
Pliers (or strong fingers)
Scissors
Optional:
- Textile glue
- Thin thread or yarn for wrapping
- Nail polish (for finishing)

Step by step: making bird feet from wire

Step 1 – Cut the wire

Cut a piece of wire about 15 cm long. A little longer is better; you can always trim it later.

Step 2 – First bend (the leg)

Measure about 3 cm from the end and bend the wire at a 90-degree angle.

Step 3 – Make the toes

From there, you will form the toes:

After 1.5 cm, bend the first toe
Repeat this 2 more times → for a total of 3 toes

Step 4 – Bend the leg upwards

Bend the remaining piece of wire back up. This part will be used to attach the foot to your crochet work.

Step 5 – Shape the foot

Bend the toes slightly apart so it really starts to look like a bird's foot.

Finishing (optional)

You can use the foot as is, or give it a beautiful finish:

Wrap with thread or yarn – Lightly coat the foot with textile glue and wrap thin thread or yarn around it for a natural look.
Coat with nail polish – Carefully go over it with nail polish for a smooth and sturdy result.
